Weekly Wrap Up - It's Getting Warm

Hi there. This was a slightly shorter week than normal and the next three weeks are also going to be shorter.  To make up for fewer outfit pics I hope to post more in June on other topics, still fashion and frugal related.  It's Memorial Day weekend and while I am thankful that it's not over 100 degrees outside, it is getting pretty warm at 94 outside as I type this. I probably define warm and hot differently than most people, but that's what happens when you grow up in the desert.  As soon as it starts getting warm/hot, public buildings, including my library, seem to over compensate by getting particularly chilly.  That is why even in the dead of Summer I wear cardigans. On to this weeks pics.
Since I started this week with a hat shot I'm linking to the Style Crone's Hat Attack

Bookended Weekly Wrap Up

Hi there. I didn't realize until I looked at this weeks pictures that my Tuesday and Saturday outfits were the exact same color scheme.  I have noticed that I seem to stick to similar colors in any given week and I'm not sure why.  The last couple of weeks have been full of blues and this week seems to be browns and purples.  I think it might be because my closet is organized by color and I gravitate to certain areas at the start of the week and continue to pull from those areas all week long.  Anyway, just an observation that I probably wouldn't have made if I hadn't started a blog about what I wear. Without further ado, here are this weeks outfits.

Weekly Wrap Up and Preparing for Mornings

Hey there. It's been almost a week with the new internet provider and thing are going very well.  It's been two weeks without cable and I haven't missed it at all. On the clothing front I read an article today from Business Insider about how happy the author is after eliminating 75% of her clothing. She writes about how having fewer wardrobe choices makes her mornings easier. I also appreciate easy mornings, mostly because I am not now, nor have I ever been a morning person.  To counter my lack of appreciation for mornings in general I try to make my morning routine as easy as possible by doing things ahead of time. Before I go to bed at night I make sure that the morning coffee has been prepped so that all is required is the push of a button. I also pick out my outfit for the next day, including accessories so that I won't have to think about it before my brain turns on, usually after the second cup of coffee.  By taking a little bit of time in the evening to prepare for the following day mornings can be easier, even with a lot of clothing.

When Hard to Care For is Worth It

Hi there. This has been an interesting week and I may be regretting my decision to switch my internet provider, but I won't know for sure until later today at the earliest.  It turns out there is no way to test my phone jacks without having the equipment that has still not arrived. So anyway on to a happier subject, clothes.

Most of the time I avoid purchasing items of clothing with embellishment.  Having worked at a dry cleaners for a few years I know how difficult it can be to care for embellished items of clothing. Sparkle flakes off eventually, sequins bend, melt and also fall off.  Beading can be especially difficult because many times a patch of beading is attached with one length of thread which means that when one bead comes loose the entire section can follow.  Beading can also make ironing difficult. Sometimes, however,  an embellished item of clothing is so awesome that I buy it anyway.  When I do this I try to ensure that it is a quality piece of clothing and not a "fast fashion" brand.  One such item is this amazing skirt that I bought from Ebay a few years ago.

It is from Odille, a brand the is carried at Anthropologie stores.  I fell in love with this skirt precisely because of the embellishment. I love the color and pattern of the bead-work.

Because this skirt makes me so happy I am willing to put more work into its care and maintenance that I usually do.  I try not to wash it every time I wear it, but being a white skirt, and me being a general klutz, I am lucky to get two wears before there are stains.  When I do wash it, always in cold water, I turn it inside out and put it in a mesh bag for delicate items so that none of the threads holding the beads on can catch on anything.

I then hang it up to dry and iron it slowly and carefully first inside out and then around the beads on the outside. I think that I have owned this skirt for ten years or so  and I hope that by taking special care of it I will have it for another decade.

Update:  And back to technology briefly. It turns out that my phone jacks do work and I called and cancelled the rest of my services with Company A this morning. I was also able to return the new router that we bought two weeks ago for a full refund because we no longer need it. Yay for surprise money savings!

See you soon.
